In Flower - Paphiopedilum henryanum, Zygopetalum, Prostechea cochleata, Epipactis pal

Hello and here are photos of the four orchids that I currently have in flower. (I also have phals in flower but no pictures of them).

I've been waiting for ages for the Prostechea to finish flowering (not a bad complaint, I suppose) as it needs repotting. It still has a few more blooms to open but I'm wondering if I should repot it this late in the season when it's done??

Myself, I haven't had any problems from repotting 'whenever' but do try to wait for new growth/roots if it isn't dire. Also have a fairly mild climate here, which could make a difference Hopefully some others will chime in.

I would say to you, if you don't mind to shorten the bloom time, then go ahead. These are tough plants but can be sensitive to transplanting

With the Prostechea cochleata I would personally repot when the roots are growing, even if that's late in the season.

I did have this one severely sulk and have significant die back of the roots last time I tried, it sulked until new roots grew. (I was increasing pot size from S/H to S/H and it really didn't seem to like me removing all the old lecca). However even then it didn't come anywhere near dying as a result, just sulked for a while.

Gloria, I don't really want to shorten my flowering time. I waited two years for this one to flowered so I want to enjoy them

Sonja & Rosie, the plant is now in active growth and is growing two new pseudobulbs. If it is still growing these when it finishes flowering, I will take your advice and pot it on. It is in a miniature pot!

I'm with you on that one. Also once you figure out how to bloom them, they should infact bloom a number of times per year.

Some would consider these everbloomers
You just have to bring a number of bulbs to maturity.
Once these begin to bloom the growth is also faster.

I love this orchid, Had mine for about 10 years now. It was 1 of the first orchids I ever brought. Just always loved this orchid, Its likey to always be seen on my shelf

Like Gloria, this was one of my first orchids. The tag is so old it actually calls it an Epi! Mine is also almost an ever bloomer, it is out of bloom about 2-3 months of the year and then starts up again. Right now it has 7 spikes,a couple of which appear to be branching) with about 5-8 blooms per spike at all times. It's a great conversation piece too!

It has been forgiving when re-potted since it has such mature growth. I do try to report when there are new growths but that is also when it is in flower. I haven't lost flower or growths on a repot yet

My biggest problem is scale. I am just diligent and pick the little critters off by hand or with a q-tip in alcohol, but they do seem to persist.
