Default Bud with a Strange Presentation

This newly opened bud is from my Pot. Richard Young 'Cariad's Collette'. The plant has been slowly adjusting after being mounted last summer. This Spring her new leads began popping up at odd angles. This pseudobulb is inhibited by a branch in such a way that the bloom presentation is upsidedown.

I know very little about Cattleya alliance chids, but from the picture it seems the leaf is not flexing as it "should" and therefore not allowing the bloom to lay down as it unfurls.

Well, its lovely all the same. such a rich colour. I have (had) one that I have nearly killed. I am doing my beast to revive it but the jury is still out and it will take forever to bloom if it does survive. In the meantime, I have enjoyed yours!

This potinara has always had a spread out, downward growth habit. I could always expect some sort of breakage whenever I repotted it. A mounting sounded like a solution at the time, but now I think a fern basket would have been the better choice.

The purpose of the snake is to scare off squirrels and other rodents.

I hope the squirrels do too. My daughter stopped by one day and we eventually ventured out to the shadehouse. She was startled when she saw that fake rubber snake.
