Almost all of my phals have been transitioned to mounts. They grow well on mounts and they're a snap to take care. The only draw back is that once they're mounted they're no longer suitable as tabletop specimens.

I suggest a rather long piece of wood, no less than 10 or 12 inches, for mounting phals as they grow down and out and their roots generally cling to the upper most part of the wood.

Thank you, Paula. That one is a Catasetum pileatum 'Oro Verde' and his fragrance reminds me of doublemint gum. Catasetums produce male and female flowers. My plant bloomed female last time and they were unscented and looked like aliens. DSCN2148_Medium_ - Orchid Board Galleries

Thanks Becca. I try to water my mounted phals once or twice a day during Florida's hot summers, but I've been guilty of missing a day here and there. The phals didn't seem to mind at all.
