My very first orchid is in bloom
This NOID phal-type dendrobium was my very first orchid. I received it as a freebie from my office 18 months ago. It had 4 canes and the last of the blooms from the only spike it had fell off the day I got it. It spent the winter inside in a south window and was very patient with me while I read everything I could to keep it alive and help it flourish. In April, I moved it outside to my back porch, which gets very lightly filtered western sun from about 3pm 'til sundown. It enjoyed the spring and hot summer on the porch, got a drench of water 2x a week and a sip every now and then from the rains. Over the summer, it grew 4 new canes.
As a Christmas gift to me, it has given me 7 spikes - 4 from the new canes and 3 from old canes that had previously bloomed - and a total of 20 blooms so far. Two of the 7 spikes are still forming so I will be enjoying the show for hopefully most of the winter!
This is my first re-bloom with this orchid. Even though it's a NOID, it's special to me because it was my first.
Thanks for looking and I hope everyone has a safe and happy new year!
