Default Most Recent November Blooms

Hello Everyone,

I haven't had the chance to post much lately. First I was dealing with a minor health issue and most recently I was cooking my tail off. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

These are my most recent November bloomers. Enjoy!

Lc. Egeria Coerulea now has 5 blooms. The latest two just opened.

Bc. Maikai noid...Not sure which variety, but the color is true on the photos and the freckles are prominent on the lip, but not so much on the other petals and sepals. This one was on it's last leg and rescued from a friend two years ago.

Ascoscenda noid...most likely a Dong Tarn 'Robert'. Her largest keiki is also in spike.

My Catasetum pileatum 'Oro Verde' produced female blooms this time. Last year they were male. A small secondary spike recently emerged and her leaves have not begun dropping yet.

A curiosity...For the first time, my noid Cattleya 'Big Momma' produced these two out of season blooms. The rest of her sheaths should begin developing buds in the near future and begin blooming in January. Big Momma is a vigorous grower and has nearly filled out her 15" container. Her blooms are fragrant.

Thank you, Tucker. My daughter purchased the Coerulea from Grazzefi Orchids in Melbourne, Florida. The owner recently closed his 40 yr. old commercial nursery, but he still grows them from home and sells plants from his web site. Mr. "G" specializes in Cattleya hybrids. I don't have his site link handy, but you should be able to find it if you search Grazzefi. Hopefully I have his name spelled right.

Thanks, Camille. Yes, Big Momma will be much more impressive in a few months. Right now she looks kind of funny being sooo big with just two blooms.

Yes, those blooms look kind of pathetic amid that huge mass of plant! Wasn't she potted in a pot before and sitting on something in the back yard? The pics you posted of one of her previous bloomings had inpressed me so much that it stayed stuck in my mind!

Thank you, Kim. I thought I was going to be disappointed with the female blooms, but I actually like these alien looking things. It was interesting to watch the buds develop. Before they opened they looked like some type of prehistoric bird heads. From bird heads to aliens...imagine that.

It's Grezaffi Orchids.com All that I saw for sale were seedling collections/their choice.

You have a good memory. Season before last...I think it was...she was planted in a 12" lattice style ceramic pot. For those photos she was temporarily moved to a plant stand in the back yard for better lighting.
