Default Orchid Flasks - the risk....

This arrived for me on Friday, as you can imagine I was disappointed as all the plants are immature and I had to throw half away. Flasks don't normally arrive in this condition but I don't think the postman took very good care of this one, as most plant have no roots I doubt many will be saved.....my only advice is to make sure the flask is ready for deflasking when you order it, otherwise if the plants aren't ready then they just won't survive. If the flask is ready for potting up then it won't be a huge problem....

That is a bummer. I've had good luck so far only losing one whole flask due to immature plants.

I tried to leave them in the flask when it arrived. I watched it for two weeks but then I saw a small mold spot so I immediately deflasked. Unfortunately the chids were still too small.

Luckily the vendor was nice enough to send a freebie
with my order so I don't feel too bad. And the freebie is a hybrid of the species flask.

Will the vendor give you any consideration?

Yeah who did you get it from? There's one aussie nurseryman in Aus i know who almost always seems to sell his flasks with Phals that are too small to deflask, and which always jumble up in the post. Once bitten twice shy.

On the other hand another guy i get flasks from imports them and they're usually a good size, packed well and don't jumble up anyway.

Although sometimes they cut off the roots to replate them and you get them with no roots... they almost always die then.

But i think you'll get a few survivors Bolero, i've deflasked much smaller than that, and i got about 50% success, which is better than nothing. The media usually doesn't burn for at least a week or two anyway.

I'd rather not say the the name of the nursery, they are going to try and fix the issue for me and unless they don't I won't mention their name.

Apparently this can happen in the post but in their description it didn't mention they weren't ready for deflasking. I don't mind if this happens and they are ready for deflasking but when you can lose the lot it kinda sucks!!!

They are going to look at sending me new plants but I will wait and see. Fingers crossed, I have tried to save about 5 but they have damaged leaves so I am not sure what luck I will have.
