A Few Pictures

Hey everyone

Iv'e been putting this little slideshow together for a while and thought id share it now that it has at least 50 pictures in it. The photos come from the 2009 Pacific orchid Expo in San Francisco, The Speakers Day at the Sacramento Orchid society , The greenhouses of Howard Gunn, Patricia Reece, Alan Vetter, Alan Koch, as well as my own. If you save the link I will be updating it every so often when i have time to do so.

Very nice link and congrats on all the work you did to create this link. I do have a question for you about the pic of B. carunculatum. I posted pics of mine that recently flowered and someone raised the question that it might not be as stated but a B. amplebracteatum. So how sure are you of the name, if you know? This more of an academic exercise for me, because I love my plant no matter what it is! Thanks

Bulbophyllum carunculatum

Thought I would let you know, slide 11 is labelled as Phrag schlimii, but it is not a schlimii. It is a hybrid with schlimii influence, but I have never seen it before, and I will try to find out what it is. It's gorgeous!

Edit: Also, slide 76 looks like a Den. cuthbertsonii.

Bulbophyllum carunculatum

The pictured plant for sure is the albinistic form of bulbophyllum carunculatum, though whether it might be a different species is up for debate still. The two species, carunculatum and amplebracteatum are very similar with the exception of flower size and overall plantsize. Amplebracteatum has flowers only about 2.5 - 2.75 inches tall while carunculatums are around 3.25 - 3.5 inches, Carunculatum is also a medium sized plant with obnoxiously scented flowers and egg sized pseudo bulbs while amplebracteatum has larger, by that i assume upwards of 3 inch pseudobulbs. Your best bet for identification would be the next flowering as the bloom matures take a few measurements and compare the lips of the two species which contrast quite a bit from one another.

Thanks for pointing that out for me, I went over the pictures of all the names again and found i mixed that and an actual schlimii up i fixed the picture, It was a hybrid with sargenteanum.

The dendrobium pictured is a hybrid that i believe has cuthbertsonii in its parentage but i distinctly remember it being a hybrid when it was brought for judging.
