Ok so our wedding aniversary is just over a week away, but Hubby asked me if I would like to choose an orchid as his gift to me
I persuaded him I could get two, and it turned out that one of them was actually two plants when it arrived.
This is my first internet purchase of orchids so I was a bit nervous, but I was reasured by the fact the website is run by the chairman of the British Orchid Growers Associated (David Steed).
I'm really pleased with the way everything was packed and shipped and the plants look in good shape even if there are a couple blemishes on the Maudiae flowers.
Paph Maudiae
I've been wanting this one for a while.
When I first unwrapped it I was pleased to see it had two flowers. Both have some blemishes on them but the plant looks in good shape (not had time to look at the roots yet).
Then I looked closer. Take a look at this next pic (click to get a larger copy).
Not only is it two plants, but they each have their own little half pot slotted inside the full pot. I think this is quite a neat way of potting smaller plants, their roots don't get entangled, but you can put two together to give a better display. This way I've got two blooming size plants which I can seperate easily later on. Two chances to not kill it
Doritinopsis Sin Yuan 'Golden Beauty'
Not sure how common this is elsewhere in the world but here in the UK there are quite a lot of orchid website selling it.
I just
love the colours of this one.
The plant is in great looking shape and the roots seen through the pot look good too. The flower spikes are quite close together and the flowers are overlapping a lot, although I managed to reposition the cane holding the second spike and seperate them a bit after this shot was taken.
I'm soooo pleased with my aniversary presents
