Default Got a few that will be blooming soon.....

Hey All,
I was taken some pictures this morning and I thought I would post some pictures of some orchids that will be blooming soon. The Phal. tetrapsis is in double spike. I moved it to lower light and it immediately responded. One of my favorite orchids, the Pteroceras semiteretifolia is spiking for the second time since I got it. I have a little Phal. stuariana that I alomst killed that is in spike. One I can't wait to see is the Phal. mannii var. flavum x Phal. equestris alba. I have two of these and both are in spike with one being a double. I bought the Phal. sogo viven varigate in bloom from Peach State Orchids two weeks ago and the first buds are about to open. Will post pictues as they open. Just thought I would share.

Thanks for sharing

Its nice to see pictures of plants before they bloom; people acually show better pictures of how they grow their plants, which is very helpful!

It looks like you will have a lot blooming!

I see your one plant with a double flower spike . What did you do , or did you do anything special to get it to put out two spikes ? I have been trying to get mine to put out double spikes but so far no luck . One grows but not a second one at the same time . I can buy them with a double spike but after the flowers are gone and they rebloom again , only one new spike will grow. Any suggestions?

Hey,
As far as the two spike thing goes, I really don't think I did anything special. I think it is more indicative of a healthy plants than any one trick. The Phal. tetrapsis pictured is one of five I have. When I bought them I was told not to cut off the old spike because they usually rebloom from it. Well the one in double spike happens to be the only one that I removed the old spike. In fact it is the only one that has a new spike at all. I also moved it to lower light. It sits about 12 inches below my t8s for 14 hours a day. I am finding that in order to get most orchids to bloom you need to have some sort of season change to induce spikes. In my little grow room near my garage I can open the door at night to lower the temps in the winter. I try to do this for at least 2 weeks. My wife hates it because she thinks spiders and other pest march right in. She is probably right. Also I increased the watering to two times a week with some light misting here and there. My small fan runs 24 hours a day and I fertilize once every other week. The Phal. mannii var equestris is just a really aggresive grower with roots everywhere. Light, water, and a little food are the only suggestions. I get just as excited about new roots and new growths as I do the actually flower. I find myself gazing over my plants daily looking for such. Good luck.
Neil
