I try very hard to keep it at 50% during the winter months.... but if the outside air is cold and dry, it's a major effort to kick it up... I don't have a misting system so I spray the floor and plants... which will give me about 60%. I would also use baskets because I don't have the headroom to hang them...their roots would have to grow down through the slats in the benches...

Dendrobium speciosum-kingianum.
Here's a link to a picture of the plant I have. This is also the vendor I got it from... scroll down a ways.
Den. specio-kingianum 'crysta'

Ethan, the Ruby Red is actually Rsc. Memoria Irene Feil 'Ruby Red'. If memory serves me correctly this is a plant that was registered by our very own Steven Feil aka IdahoOrchid in memory of his mother. I think he'd be very pleased to see it's been awarded an AM/AOS!

Nice growing!!

Beautiful additions Ethan!! They all have wonderful colors. I like the speckling on the vanda blooms. And the last one is so gorgeous!!!

Really? That would be amazing if Ethan's orchid was actually registered by someone on OB!! Thanks for the info, I hope you are right!

Not to steal this wonderful thread, but Teri brings up a question I have about registering a plant/flower. If I understand the general principle here: if a "NOID" is just a NOID, you can name it and as that the AOS register the that plant with that name?????
Help me out here....

Beeeeeeeeautiful choices, Ethan. Great fix for your addiction.

I ordered a Sogo Grape last month but the nursery is in the midwest and hasn't been able to ship out (bad weather) so I ended up cancelling the order. It's a definite "must have", on top of my list. Your's looks fantastic!

Nichole - thanks for the link, that dend. is gorgeous!!

Terri - thanks for the info - I had no idea I had the spelling wrong. I did a little research on this and you are correct about this being a cross that IdahoOrchid registered in memory of his mother. Such a sweet story!! Link to that thread is here: Pot. Memoria Irene Feil

Quick question tho, terri - it looks to me like this is still considered a potinara. Is it really Rsc?

Doc - In IdahoOrchid's case he bought an unnamed cross and got permission from the person who made the cross to register it with his own name. I'm not sure about NOID's...would you ever be able to register them if there's no way to tell if a registry already exists?

Also, Doc, I think you would be able to grow Vandas fine in your g-house. The roots on mine have stayed in the basket so far so I would think you could set yours on a bench without a problem - you can always tuck the strays back in the basket.

I guess trying to register a noid is like trying to register a dog with the AKC forwhich you don't have the parentage...

And thanks for the encouragement about the Vanda! I'm on my to visit my friend's GH in Florida next week and she has a GH-ful of vandas!

Thanks, Sandy - I hope you can find one soon....this has been on my wish list for a while. I actually talked to the vendor at the show on saturday and he said he had one he would bring me on Sunday if I came back - Well that wasn't a problem!!!

Do you have any shows coming up in your area? You could try the same thing...
