Great haul, JKelee! I don't grow Vandas myself because I grow indoors and don't have the space, but I LOVE that Catt!

Jkelee,

I am thrilled for you that you have found some more beautiful additions for your collection! And thanks for providing the link to Smiley's greenhouse.

I saw that she is in Clermont, which is a place I once lived in when I was 18...more than 25 years ago (it was for about 5 months, and was the only time I lived outside of Maryland between the age of 12 and when I moved to southwest Florida 3 years ago). Ah, the memories!

I'm figuring that I'll have to get up there and check the place out. Do you know if there are other chid growers in that area of FL? Maybe a group of us could arrange to get together for some power shopping and lunch.

WOW!!!!!!!!!

Now that is what I would call ORCHID HEAVEN. I could get lost in there and never find my way out.

Thanks for the link and the pictures. I sure wish I could visit there......I would need a U-Haul to get me home again. I need to move to Florida so I could grow then outside.
Michigan winters require me to grow them in my basement under HID lights. Not ideal, but better than having no vandas. I can get them to bloom there but thy will never grow like they do in Florida.

Oops... sorry Jackie! I posted on the other post (about the Mkra blue that is really pink) to ask you to post these pics. So, sorry about the double post.

Anyway, I agree that the V. Happy Smile x V. Kultana Fragrance does not get the justice it deserves in the pictures. It is just gorgeous! I had the same problem because I was trying take pics of mine last night but I think it was too dark and they came out bad. I will take some more today and get them up here ASAP.

Smiley really is a great grower and so nice! She was very helpful, knows just about everything, and her place is immaculate. Not a thing on the floor in the whole grow space of 8 greenhouses! Amazing!!!

David, I don't know about the Clermont area as far as other growers go, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some. If you do take a trip up this way though, there are a couple of other good orchid nurseries in Kissimmee. The convenience is that you take the turnpike for both so you can hit the clermont one then head back south and hit the two in Kissimmee. The Kissimmee ones are World or Orchids (I have never been but Jackie tells me good stories about them) and the other is Tom Ritter Orchids which might also be listed at Tropical Orchids or Tropic 1 Orchids. Both Smiley in Clermont and Tom Ritter let you walk throught he greenhouses which are just amazing!

Swamper, just make sure you call ahead because the gate is not always open at the front of her property. She is very welcoming though so she will be happy to have you!
