Hey all,

Been very excited when I saw this. I bought this plant as a seedling last october and in that time 5 new growths grew. Well one of growth threw one of these out. This is my 1st one that I hopefully will bloom. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hope it will bloom. It is a blc david matsuura paradise. There were a few other seedlings that I have had that I really anticipated to bloom first, Ill just have to wait patiently and see. Figured Id share something good because I share a lot of negative and problematic topics.

Hate to break the bad news, but that's a leaf emerging, not a sheath.

Looking at the photo, it seems the leaf has two flaps indeed.

Ahhh.... Thought it was too young still. Kind of weird this plant has some leaves that are unifoliate and a lot of others that are bifoliate. Well at least new growth is good news LOL...Kind of was expecting a blind sheath anyways...My encyclia cordigera did the same thing on me this spring. Full year of bubbles bursts LOL...

Hybrids with both bifoliate and unifoliate ancestors can, and do, produce growths of both types. Also young plants even of pure biofoliates do that too. So... yes, this one is teasing you.

Keep an eye out still! There may be a sheath tucked in there yet!

Indeed they have... and it goes beyond what one might think.

I got excited when my youngish Prosthechea cochleata started growing something out the top of a pseudobulb. I assumed it was a spike, but it turned out to be another pseudobulb growing on top of the first one. I had no idea they could grow that way. I was a little annoyed at first but a few months later it grew an actual spike (and another ... and another) and has been blooming constantly since.
