Don’t you love it when a 1st year division blooms? I Never expect it, but always appreciate it 🙏

Divided this from my 37 year old NOID last September to have a spare.

Boy, if that's not Bob Betts it's a darn close relative.

OMG Yeh? Tell me more please 🙏

I really wish I could ID this noid, been wanting to for decades. I purchased it in 1987 as one of those retail 4” pots with the mesh bag and glossy photo card. At a florist/ greenhouse in Providence, RI.

Do these additional photos help any?

I always heard that the Bob Betts was a legendary white and yellow Catt. I wonder if it can be DNA tested somewhere. I wouldn’t know where to begin.

Thank you 😊

Nah there isn't a DNA test. Better bet is to try and track down the source. Some people, especially breeders keep good records. Any chance there is a tag swallowed in the rootball?

It's a dead ringer for C. bob betts!

Plover- this is my Carl Hausermann which is 1/2 Bob Betts. Not much difference, is there?

Thank you both for this helpful information. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I was reading about the history of ‘Bob Betts’ in The Classic Cattleyas book by A.A. Chadwick and Arthur Chadwick.

So, my understanding is this cross of C. Mossiae with C. Bow Bells pushed the bloom time of ‘Bob Betts’ into springtime. Along with the other attractive characteristics of legendary Bow Bells.

Mine is also an April bloomer; so this is encouraging news.

This is exciting information. I guess it would only make sense that the sensational Bob Betts would be chosen to contribute to mass production in retail spaces; which is how I purchased it.

Over the decades, I’d see white Catts in greenhouses and displays but I never thought they compared favorably to my noid. If mine has Bob Betts lineage then that certainly would explain why.

Some paragraphs from pp 155 - 156, Chadwick’s book in the photos below.

What a nice surprise! And beautifully grown! Yes, I really see the resemblance.

I think you mentioned Hausserman’s previously. I have several orchids from them and I really like what they offer.

Thanks!
