Some flower pics to share - in flower at the moment

C. maxima - these flowers are a second set. The first set on a neighbouring stem have finished flowering.

Great question Jeff, and thanks for posting! The plant originally came from one pot. It continued to spread out sideways, so to just support the extra plants that came out, more pots were just added for them to hang onto. Your perception is right too. There are some that are in between the pots with their roots just extending down to the ground. The ground is sandy, with some soil mixed in, and regular rocks mixed in as well. It was just part of the garden bed.

I'll attach a couple of pics taken this morning for you Jeff --- with some smaller, but established ones ----- one just sort of sitting on the edge of a pot, and another hanging off the side of a pot.
