thanks roberta! the one from today is schunkeana. the other maxis we have are variabilis, but they all flower for us at late spring/early summer, and are mostly orange with a brown/black center. this is our first flowering with schunkeara, and i didn’t know when they would show up. of the 2 shunkeanas we have, only one is blooming this year, the other seems a bit smaller and im guessing it won’t bloom till next fall.

Cool! Always satisfying to see that famous "happy sap" and bright green leaves!

Default paphiopedilum micranthum var eburneum

well, here tis this beauty of a little gem. i think every orchid in bloom is our favorite orchid, but this one just looked like a succulent little marshmallow i wanted to snatch and eat the whole time!!!

colors are pretty true, but there is a bit more green around the center in sunlight that i just couldn't pick up tonight, so thought we'd go more the creative route with the photo

It's always interesting to see other folk's experiences. The easier dendrobiums for the most part grow like weeds for me. Cooler growing Oncs (milts and such) and paphs are on my 'can I grow it' list at the moment. I think half my enjoyment is just figuring out and growing things I've failed at before. Since my house windowsills are basically full, I must resort to sacrificing to the gods before buying any more.
Like your thread, I am amazed at how many things I can have in flower at any given time. Even given the paucity of numbers that I have (compared to many of you that can grow orchids outside especially).
Thanks for sharing!

im with ya, i do like trying new species and genera, but i hate that fear of doing the wrong thing with a plant, and we for sure have that with dendrobiums. it’s just such a large and complex group. this one put on some new little canes last year, but all of them except this one died. so i was of a mind to pitch it, and this may have been one of several that the better half literally rescued from the garbage can....

she gives me the business every time but i just keep doing it! got no room for underperforming plants!

Among my 'I'd like to grow it' are dendrobium cuthbersonii and lawesii.. Such beautiful tiny plants. But southern heat and humidity make that kinda difficult.
