well, curious to dig a little deeper about this, i consulted my go to pic guide of phal groups, and was actually a bit surprised by the closer look. pictorially, and with a sample size of n=1 mind you, it appears as if fangs are actually far in the minority of trait expression.
the only obviously visible fanged lips are in the true phalaenopsis group, with
amabilis, phillipensis, sanderiana and
schilleriana displaying that. edit to add,
stuartiana as well. all other species have a no fang lip.
truly didn’t expect that, but again perhaps this isn’t the most reliable method as there is only one example of each species shown. but it’s something of an answer anyway...you can click the pics to see other examples of them, but i haven’t gotten that far
