Oncidium pubes Male
Default Oncidium pubes

This one has been slowly building its spike and developed its buds and flowers. Like most oncidiums it took its time. I think I lost quite a few buds during windy weather, but I counted at least 60 open flowers on it.

I estimate the leaves to measure about 20-25cm, the pseudobulbs 7-10cm. The flowers are about 10-15mm each.

Nice! Any chance of getting a really close photo of the flower? From the closest one it looks like the lip is hairy (hence the name) but can just barely see it. (I am very fond of fuzzy/hairy orchids... )

You're correct, there should be some hair there.

I've got to put my glasses on and take a close look! Hopefully tomorrow

Leptotes pohlitinocoi and leptotes bicolor. Only days until they drop the last open flowers now.

Last one is dendrobium loddigesii. Now that's a hairy flower

Doesn't look like it... can you see what might have inspired the name ?

Maybe it is not Oncidium pubes, but something else. 🤔
Time for some research when a suitable evening comes!

There is something there, but I'm unsure if it counts as hair. These are the closest pictures I've been able to take

I've not seen "hairier" flowers online, so I still think it's a pubes.

Maybe somebody here knows more?

The lip does look a little fuzzy. Most Oncidiums don't have texture on the lip, so whoever did the description and naming of this one, I guess, thought that was a defining feature.
