Wonderful blooms! Sobralias are quite nice. For some reason I thought those got quite tall and avoided them. The foliage alone looks very nice.

Some Sobralias do get rather tall, but others don't. I think that some of the more recent breeding of hybrids aims at more compact plants. (That seems to be the case with the Sob. yauaperyensis x xantholeuca) Sob. sanderae and some of the other species also stay relatively small. Sob. macrantha and its hybrids (like Sob. veitchii) can indeed get big and tall, but there are lots of other ones to choose from. (I especially love Sob. sanderae... color and form are so nice, I think "Why hybridize when the species already has all the qualities?...")

Good to know - Sobralia may be my next venture! Perhaps a Sob. sanderae...

My Sob. sanderae came from Andy's. Hybrids (the smaller ones) from Cal Orchid. Another species that doesn't get huge is Sob. xantholeuca. Incredible color - butter yellow with deep yellow throat.
