Flying is just 20min. The other one (the on the pic below) came from Oviedo, around 1 hour flight and was ok. So little they let me have it on my lap so she was good.

Update for Winter Setup @ sade Garden. ☺☺

Unfortunately, I won't be able to enclose the chillout orchid area as I was planning; convert it into a greenhouse, maybe next year. However, I have placed it on an elevated table and hooked it again to the wall ( a DIY table) that will allow to place/hang more Catts from the tabletop to the bottom. Then I'll remove a layer of the shade of the porch since is heavily covered right now.

What is going to happen there: sun, lots of wind and rain. Temps from 22° to 10° from now to February. More humidity and cold in Dec and Jan, those months I can provide extra heat and lighting if is not raining.

Some Phals are still in that area bit as soon as they spike, they will, because here in Oct - Nov, we have temperatures dropping at night but the days are sunny-warms above 24 °s. Then, I'll move them inside as soon as temperatures are constantly around 18°

Opinions please ... Advice!! Anything that you may consider I am not taking into consideration

What will you do about heat/light if it rains or gets too cold in December/January? That's the first thought that comes to mind...

Also likely time for a bit of research to find out which are the truly cold-tolerant plants. Many of the Catts will be fine (as long as they don't have too much C. dowiana in their parentage) , probably Oncidiums as well. Vanda, it depends on parentage and "how cold" ... Sade, take a look at the "Index of Plants" on my website to see what I manage to grow outside all year - your climate is similar enough to mine to maybe have some useful information.

Ok, so ...my plan, to see if it make sense:

What is just behind it is a storage room, I would move everything there if I see that there is an extreme storm or many days in a row without sun. To compensate for the light if there are several cloudy days, I have full-spectrum halogens (Chinese ), but I think they will get me out of trouble. For the heat, I have an industrial heater, the kind used for construction sites, for an extreme case.

Vandas are going in, those in the picture are semi sun, but I have 4 full sun on the other side of the patio, so I need to place them inside with at least 22º average...right???

I have some rather hardy Vanda species outside, and anything with Neof. falcata in it is going to be cold-tolerant. Most of the big-flowered hybrids have a lot of V. sanderiana in them and so need more warmth.
Also... a few days (or even few weeks) of less-than-ideal light isn't going to set plants back any significant amount. Protecting from sudden cold is the important thing, since damage can occur in a few hours or (in serious cases) even a few minutes. Also remember that a dry orchid can tolerate much more cold (outside of its usual limits) than a wet one. That is a factor that helps to define my "what can I get away with" - rain is infrequent, and the cloud cover keeps the temperature from dropping into the danger zone when it is raining (some things have overhead protection but most don't). When it is clear and cold, it's dry. So these are "refinements" in terms of applying my observations to a similar but not identical environment.

The more damaging thing will happen just now; granite rain, but the shade I have now will protect the plants from that. Yes, sometimes in January a sporadic freeze, but I think I'll have everything inside from before Christmas till mid-February, even if the house looks like a jungle!! hahahah.... thank god I have plenty of space anyway.

i am also impressed and enamored by the blue and the effort!

the one thing that i see that really jumps out is how many more plants you need to fill all that space!!!!

i am still jealous of this terrace and want to drink a few glasses of wine there and just breath in the space.
