Default My Best Bloom Show EVER

Hello Orchid Board,

It has been a little while. In fact I believe I haven't made a post since last years summer blooming season. This past year I have downsized my orchid collection and instead grown my Monstera collection! So I have fewer blooms to show off.

Attached are photos of my prized and most faithful bloomer, Dendrobium Lindleyii. Blooms for me every year without fail, although this years blooms come a little later than usual. The two largest spikes have 22 flowers each, and the smaller three spikes have about 10 flowers/buds each. They are not all fully open, but I couldn't resist sharing

There was a Sixth spike that the plant didn't have enough energy to continue growing out, but that is okay and I am MORE than happy with this years show. My flowers tend to last for 2-3 weeks, so lets see how long they last now that there are so many of them.

What a fantastic display of blooms!!! Whatever you are doing, keep on doing it, I know that many people find this orchid a bit difficult to bloom. How are you growing it? What do you think is the key to success?

To be honest Camille and Ray, I'm not doing anything special! I grow this plant in home conditions. It sits on a NE facing window and stays there year round except for when I display it while it's blooming. Never been repotted in the three years I have had it and it blooms every year for the first week of May. It gets watered probably once a week, maybe every two weeks through the winter months. Fertilized whenever I remember... I think the trick is that it stays right on that cold windowsill all through the winter. I have noticed that it blooms on growths that are 3-4 years old, so depending on what your growth rate was at that time, that dictates what your chances of blooms are. Or at least that's my theory!

100%

I have trouble blooming mine indoors because of the lack of a cold winter.

Nice work, making me jealous!!!
