Default Better late than never, Phal blooming season has begun!

My Phals are all running massively late this year, some are more than 2 months behind their usual clockwork schedule. The only explanation I can think of is that we had warm temps much longer than usual in the fall, which prevented spike induction. Here's a subset of the Phal collection, the rest are only just starting to bloom!

Phal Wiganiae (schilleriana x stuartiana)
This one is nearly always in full or partial bloom before Christmas, but not this year. I've had this plant for about 10 years and it's a very reliable bloomer.

Phal schilleriana

This is the second blooming for this one, so the flower count is still low. It's a shame that the beautiful foliage isn't in the photo, but the plant was facing the window while the spike grew towards the lights.

Phal Artisto Crafts
This is the trade name given by Opti-flor to Phal Rheingold x pallens. I bought it last year with 6 spikes, and didn't cut any of them after it finished blooming. All the spikes woke up during the winter and made some new buds. The plant has several basal keikis so it should be quite a show in a couple years.

Phal equestris B#100 AM/AOS

This is a nice little Phal, but the flower color is impossible to get right, even when shooting RAW. They always come out rather pink, which the color is actually a rich dar pink/purple.

Phal lueddemanniana
This is also a Phal where it's best to never cut off old spikes, it will rebloom from them for several years as well as send up new ones. It's carrying several keikis right now that I'll remove since the mother plant is not growing as well as it should (too many spikes and keikis), one of them already has Mr.Fakename's name on it. The fragrance of this Phal is amazing. Not overly strong, but on a warm sunny day I can smell it from a couple feet away.

This lueddemanniana is great. I'm not a huge fan of the breeding lines that emphasize super flat and round flowers; this one has a real "personality".

Nice job!

Every one of those phals I would love to own. So beautiful, in particular I love the equestris and the wiganiae. I cant wait until my phals begin blooming on this level!

Thanks for the nice comments! I have about 6-7 more Phals in bud now (along with a Howeara Lava Burst and Leptotes bicolor), so there will be more photos in coming weeks!

I got into photography because of orchids, and I like to say that one expensive hobby spawned an even more expensive hobby and I've accumulated quite a bit of gear over the years. My favorite type of photos are the orchids of course, along with mushrooms, wildflowers and I've recently bought some filters to do some long exposures.

Nice job!
You know that if you didn't like the form of this lueddemanniana, I wouldn't be upset if you declined the keiki. I didn't think to mention to you that my plant had more of a 'wild type' form. Not my intention when I bought it, but I found it rather nice!
