This is a first bloom seedling of SVO7489, Slc. Orquidacea's Small Fortune (Lc. Trick or Treat 'Orange Magic' AM/AOS x Slc. Kagaribi Dawn 'Red Star'.) It is properly called a Cattleyanthe (Ctt.) and its parents are Ctt. Trick or Treat and C. Kagaribi Dawn. There are two flowers. They are about 3" / 7.5cm across, and the lips are 1.75" / 4.3cm long.

It came to me in a 3" pot the first week in November. The flowering growth initiated after it arrived and grew steadily through the winter. The flower spike wilted when I was out of town into its current looped position, but the buds lived. I didn't want to risk the spike by training it upright as it grew.

That's a very nice one, the color is so cheerful! At first I thought that 'small fortune' was referring to the amount of money you had spent on either this plant or at SVO in general!

I've had Trick or Treat for about fifteen or so years. It's still one of my favorites and never disappoints. Good cross.

Fred's plants are inexpensive on an absolute basis and dirt cheap compared to many other US seedling vendors. This plant was $14 plus shipping. In your imagination remove the growth with flowers I depicted; that was the size on arrival in the first week of November 2020. Fred gives a 5% discount to AOS members and additional discounts for purchase volume.

Seedlings are of course a little smaller when first released in February, compared to the same crosses bought in November after months more growing in Fred's care. But as many here have commented, a lot of seedlings that just arrived in 3"/7.5cm pots are in spike.
