I think I've read that they're a bit difficult to grow? What are the main challenges?

Getting it to not lose leaves... mine was doing fine for a couple of years, then it lost most leaves. I would love to know what works for those (including the OP) that keeps them growning.

Thanks for the kind words, I thought I'd better share some pics that weren't about a sick orchid for a change

I noticed a few more flowers this morning as you can see within a day of any den opening the slugs have left their signature unfortunately, and it's only since the warmer temps and their absence I've now got the opportunity to have flowers.

The Masd is a hybrid, I'll have to check the name (copper something) but had a bouquet a couple of months back, it and the Miltoniopsis sit in the lower shadier spots of the gh with other cool growing Dens and Cochliodas/Cyrtochilums. The Den cucumerinum get's no special treatment with the prentecei, lichenastrum and rigidum just a regular watering, the aussie natives (including bulbos) are generally tough customers that can do without a drink for extended periods.

I've got around 80 soft canes and may put a separate post of their flowers from a month back, they're quite a show when they're in flower and very fragrant. I've always enjoyed them as a contrast to the Cyms and kingianums and sarcs we predominantly have here but have had difficulties with them previously.

Until they acclimatize to our Adelaide weather they can be a bit of a challenge but after a season they do great with the seasonal temperature changes triggering blooms. The key is to keep the humidity up with all their aerial roots, our 30% humidity serves them poorly and grow slowly or shrivel, and making sure they're out of the rain during Winter so they don't rot (like so many others here). I'll have some keiki's available shortly.

I would love to see photos of your collection of sc dens.

So far so good with my 3 small sc dens. We are a lot cooler generally with humidity a bit higher here, only the occasional 35C+ day. I keep all my orchids under a verandah and have a misting system for the odd day when it gets too warm.

I would definitely be interested in some keiki's.
