My Orchids are Calling
I'm still in NH but getting ready to head back to the Keys for the winter on Monday because most of the leaves are now laying on the ground and worst of all......., I saw snow last Friday night (GASP!).
My Keys neighbor sent a few pics from my shadehouse a couple days ago and now I can't wait to get there. She says the place has become a veritable jungle with the very wet summer they had. Here's a couple....1) Aerides (my favorite genus) lawrenceae first bloom seedling I got in Jan at the Tamiami show (last one I've been to) and 2) Ascda. Sweet Pea 'Ruby'. This is one of the first orchids I ever bought (from RF way back when Bob came to speak in NH) and it hasn't bloomed in 5 or 6 years. Happy to see it's back!
Anyway, driving down on Monday with about 20 new plants I've picked up over the summer and can't wait to get started.

Congrats on the homecoming, I can only imagine how nice it is to return to your collection and take in all the growth and blooms.
Question, aerides is your favorite genus, is lawerencia your favorite species of the genus?
Look forward to seeing more of your shadehouse pics!

Oh how fun! Back to paradise! Enjoy, and take plenty of pictures after you get caught up. I always wanted to winter somewhere warm upon retirement. Too many animals for that... I'll live vicariously for now.

Nice! Out of curiosity, what is your job that lets you go back and forth?

I believe this is what's referred to as "RETIREMENT".
I'm not bragging but I had a plan from day one and stuck to it but don't think for one minute that you don't also need some luck along the way.
I got to retire a little early (62) but I'm certainly not one of the techie start-ups that sells out and retires at 32.

Ascda. Sweet Pea 'Ruby' is a gorgeous colour.
I have a small Aerides leena, bought as a tiny plant, probably just out of flask but it hasnt missed a beat, lovely strong leaves and roots starting to fill the pot.
