Brassocattleya (Bc.) Binosa is a primary hybrid of Brassavola nodosa x Cattleya bicolor. I bought a plant of this from Alan Koch when he spoke to our society in May of this year. He said it is very fragrant, which sold me. I also realized it should do well in my warm sunroom.
I knocked off the top of the growth with a sheath on the way home. It made two new growths after that, and they opened about 2 weeks ago. I didn't notice any scent.
I was out of town for 6 days, and the plant went a few days dry. The flowers are aging sooner than they should. Last night I went into my sunroom after dark and smelled something nice. I had a Brassia warszewiczii flower recently, and it was already finished. (I didn't take photos but strongly recommend this plant!) I thought long and hard... and realized the Binosa should still be flowering. That indeed was the source of the great fragrance. It is not there in the daytime.
