Subrosa --- yesterday morning, I was able to smell (in the morning) some scent. Not incredibly strong - but pleasant. No signs of unpleasantness in the fragrance.

It was like one of the nice smells from those patches or things they put inside cars for nice smells hehe.

I didn't get any very strong scent coming from the flowers though. However, there are more buds still to open - so will keep checking to see if the level of scents comes up a bit with more time.

I find quite a bit of variance in the scent from clone to clone, but haven't found one yet that I would categorize as unpleasant. Mostly they range from a vague floral scent to a definite smell of old fashioned roses.

I have a pretty good sized specimen I've had for years. It has the more classic white flowers that are infused with a very light shading of pink. Just like an apple blossom. Interestingly, I find the fragrance to be consistent with an apple flower as well but it is much fainter in the orchid than the ones on the apple tree.

If anyone else just received the latest AOS Orchids magazine issue, there is a great specimen pictured in the awards section.

I believe fragrance power is highly variable in Iwan Appleblossom varieties. I have a "Kalei Pink" which supposed to be powerfully fragrant yet it is only lightly fragrant. I have "Golden Elf" which most say has no fragrance, yet mine is very powerfully fragrant. Both have the same appleblossom like fragrance. Both are currently in spike

KG and CH ----- awesome that you're both growing results from Jkf. too.

I only just found out (online) what was happening with the naming of it ..... such as Iwanagara switched to Jkf. Unbelievable how somebody's effort with the name Iwanagara got the raw deal after the name switch.

Definitely interested KG! Thanks for the heads-up on that one.

Indeed there is a very nice specimen plant there on PDF file page 58 in the awards section, photo #6 in the AOS orchids October 2020 magazine.

Really nice!

I had one that's blooms smelled just like the apple tree blossoms. They were both in bloom at the same time so I compared the fragrances....

That would be so nice LM ---- to have two different kinds of the Appleblossom flowering at the same time. Parking both next to each other to have a fragrance mix combination should be very nice too!
