mini phal and Den. discolor

Much more flowers open for the mini phal now (no-id mini phal), and the Dendrobium discolor has had flowers out for a while now ----- quite long lasting flowers for the Dendrobium too. I also included a pic taken with flash - not natural illumination.

The Dendrobium discolor is very easy to grow. Not sure how it happened, but one small Dendrobium pseudobulb somehow ended up among some woody plant growth, and the roots just sprouted and hung on ..... and had just been growing under-the-radar with some roots hanging off the woody growth, and I think other roots on the soil. I think I'll take a pic of that later - to get a closer look.

Forgot to mention that the Dendrobium discolor was attacked by Dendrobium beetle during flower spiking time, and the beetles destroyed two spikes. And then out came the carbaryl, and the rest of the spikes were fine after that.

Not actually unusual ------ to have a Dendrobium discolor bulb growing among old woody stems of some garden plant.

It just sort of shows how 'tough' some orchids (plants) are. Such as --- if bulbs had somehow broken off from a plant after growing of a pot, and the pot relocated ------ the broken-off bulbs can possibly just make it and survive when the conditions are ok.

After inspecting the area ----- I can see other apparently dry bulbs in the area. The one with the leaves, and some nearby (with no leaves). There is actually no orchid pot anywhere near this region.

The conditions here are tropical. And the lawn pop-up sprinklers waters the whole area where this bulb is located. I'll just monitor the state of it, and see how this one goes. I think it has been going quite ok for quite a while already there. It was under the radar. I might later put it in an orchid pot anyway.

I purchased this from one of those Home Depot equivalents (called "Bunnings" in Australia), and the tag just had something like Phalaenopsis sp. ----- and I assume 'sp.' refers to species, and this one is definitely not a species haha.

And a member (Edew) had what appears to be the same one as I had ----- from this link here.
