I don’t view that as seeking perfection - that’s impossible! However, as we're discussing a general subject that is SO variable, with parameters that can be SO subjective, it is advantageous to “nail down” whatever we can, as a way of reducing the number of variables.

As always, late to the party. Well, Bill Nye, no one said you were seeking perfection. I think the phrase was "too much seeking of perfection killing the joy" to paraphrase. More so to me it appears you put your cranky pants on this morning and came across in a snippy manner in your first post. And I've known you long enough to know you are usually a bit more...ummm... discrete with your knowledge. Thus, you get my cranky pants of the moment badge.

Who in the heck knows what DCoconuts does and doesn't know? I'm sure he hasn't been raising orchids nearly as long as some here. (not old enough) I consider myself absolutely no match to the nomenclature some here have for orchids... yourself, Roberta, Kim, Camille, just to name a few. I'm pretty serious about liking to grow nice orchids. The nomenclature (constantly changing) ... not so much. When I lose a tag, I could care less. Not why I got it in the first place. Yes, I care, to a certain extent. The whole naming stuff, for me, is highly overrated unless speaking to a group of like minds.

Okay, rant over. Sorry Ray... you know sometimes you just get me started. Gracias for your expertise, but seriously? Not well worded.

I’m a trial lawyer by day. I have thick skin. Also, I am incredibly aware that the very very vast majority of knowledge in the universe is NOT known by me so.....I’ve got a lot to learn

To me, as long as it is not outright trolling, I can handle being called out for my bad spelling (amongst other things)

My vast collection of post graduate degrees reminds me of little more than the fact that I must have a lot of debt

I grow a LOT of mint and rosemary and basil and some lemongrass around my flowers. I think many pests don’t like them.

Hmmmm. It appears once again I’ve given unsolicited advice. It’s been one of my hardest habits to break, believe me. Giving unsolicited advice implies I know better than another person. It’s an arrogant position to take, even if I’m right.

It’s a bad habit, cultivated over decades of fighting for the underdog, or always having to take an adversarial attitude regardless. My apologies to both Bill and DCoconuts for needlessly getting involved. Imma go slink into a corner and give myself a time out.
