The mice have discovered my hothouse. And apparently, NOID phalanopsis roots and cattleya buds have turned into the flavor of the day.
With several traps and some poison, it looks like I'm getting the vermin under control *relieved sigh*
With all the disappointments and fatalities lately, I try to focus on the highlights in the hothouse instead, so here are a handful of flowers from this morning.
Dendrobium Mickey Mouse
This is a funny one. It doesn't look like any of its parentage plants. It's grown in LECA and last year the drainage hole got blocked while I was on holiday and someone else watered the hothouse. Poor thing nearly drowned and has taken a year to recover, but it's finally back on track and happy again.
Camaridium ochroleucum (Maxillaria camaridii)
Has turned into quite a flowerer. Plants find their way into my hothouse in different ways. Some are rescues given by others, some are on the wishlist forever and some are just...randomly ticked off on a purchase order. This one was one of those random purchases and I had no idea what to expect. Not the most pleasant fragrance, and short-lived flowers, but a charming little plant nevertheless.
Miltonidium Melissa Brianne
New plant. Came in flower. A messy spike with blossoms pointing in all directions and impossible to get decent pictures of at the moment, but I do like the color and look forward to grow this one.
Potinara Chief Sweet Orange
What is there not to love about Potinara Chief Sweet Orange? I think it's so easy to get hung up on the more challenging plants in the hothouse and this one tends to be forgotten between flowerings, but when it opens up it always reminds me of what a thankful, vigorous,
easy plant this is. It just delivers,
every single time. It actually has everything I'm looking for in a catt; stunning, strong colors, large flowers and an amazing scent, and on top of that it flowers several times per year.
