Default Home Depot Charlie Brown

So, the big stores order boxes of these "bag babies" and they seem to to just languish. I see the same ones hang or lay for what seems like months sometimes. I got this one last fall marked down to like 7 dollars, nearly dead, no viable roots, wrinkled with dehydration. For some reason, it caught my eye and foolishly, I picked it up. It is a hybrid; Epilaeliocattleya Charlie Brown. I potted it up and rehydrated the starving little thing and it responded in a really vigorous way. Here it is after just a few months with a nice flower and a few more buds coming up. I mostly grow species, but I give this one cudos for resilance.

Congratulations, great save from languishing in Home Depot.

Nice! I picked up an Epc. Charlie Brown back during the winter (February or early March?) at Lowes. It developed a small 3-bud spike about a month ago (mine is not open yet). Admittedly, I picked mine up soon after it hit the store, so it was in better shape. Nice to see that yours is a survivor, you brought it back into great condition!

The Epc. Charlie Brown is one of 3 Better-gro bag babies that I picked up this year that were either in spike when I got them (Lc. Llory Ann 'Paradise'), or developed spikes soon after (Encyclia cordigera).

It rewarded you beautifully. I sure wish we had bag babies here.

Yeah, I've never seen a bag baby here either. Beautiful flower though. I'm trying to track down a mini catt with similar color.

Very pretty and I for one am glad they do not have more selection near me or I would be asked to move out! I find plenty of ways to purchase without this.

Bag Babies are small baby-ish orchids sold in plastic bags in big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes. In stores local to my area at least, the orchids in the bags are often neglected and or displayed poorly. I usually cringe as I walk by them or look away so as not to be disgusted. Apparentely, some stores in other areas take better care according to some here on OB.
