An Announcement about the 2008 New York International Orchid Show
It is with regret that we must announce that due to a variety of circumstances beyond our control the New York International Orchid Show, which has been held at Rockefeller Center for the past six years, has been indefinitely postponed; no event will take place this year. It would be simplistic to single out any one of the numerous reasons that have made this decision necessary, but the organization and production of this iconic Spring event in New York City has become increasingly challenging.
The Society is very proud of its stature and history of contributing to the New York City cultural climate so that after 27 continuous years it is of course disappointing to face this decision. Undoubtedly there will be plenty of questions and rumors, but the show has evolved and been reinvented several times in its history. We are actively considering various possibilities for future orchid events, but it is premature to offer any suggestion regarding our plans at this time.
The Greater New York Orchid Society wishes to extend its profound thanks to Tishman Speyer and all their staff who have been both exceedingly generous and gracious hosts during our time at Rockefeller Center. We are very proud of our collaborative successes and exceedingly appreciative of their ongoing support of the Society and the New York International Orchid Show; most particularly for their efforts and assistance after September 11, 2001.
Regardless of what form our future efforts might take, we will keep you informed as things develop and expect that we will be able to bring orchids back to New York in the very near future.

a possible replacement:
Mar 14-15 The New York Orchid Expo. USA.
World Yacht Ship docked at 42nd. Street and the Hudson River.
" This is an event replacing the canceled GNYOS. It has been put together by an individual who is underwriting the whole thing. Will be held on a yacht at a dock where there is ample parking and bus and other stops right there, so should be a great success. Invited vendors only so all the shonky traders are out and it will see the appearance of some real treasures like Mr Masdevallia (John Leathers) who will be selling for the first time ever at an orchid event. He has the finest collection of Masdevallias in the U.S. IMO."
