I heard that they got greedy too. I also heard the AOS judges got in a huff because they didn't have as much time for judging as they wanted. Longwood was trying to keep them on a schedule because the public was getting impatient.
Having lived in apartments and townhouses in small cities before, I totally get the transportation issues and can appreciate how much better this is/was for Jayfar.
Ultimately, it'll be the vendors who decide. If getting in and out is a hassle, and they don't sell much they'll stop coming. The show will wither away which will be a shame since this is one of the best shows and sales on the east coast.
Cheers.

Here are the new additions clockwise from lower left. All are in bud or bloom.
Phal. Ho's Lovely Amethyst - I just loved the color. So this was am impulse purchase.
Lycaste Abou First Spring- always wanted one and I've had some success with Lycaste . I know it is the end of the blooming seasons, but it was reasonably priced and healthy and I avoided shipping charges.
Encyclia bractescens - Saw a big one at the show and liked it.
Maxillaria sophronitis - Orchid Wiz has this as Ornithidium [Otm.] sophronitis. So it must have been reclassified
Leptotes [Lpt.] bicolor - will need some advice as it is in packed Spag which doesn't seem like a good idea.

Carrie,
You got some real beauties! I especially love the phal. Which vendor had those?
I wish I could help you with the Lpt., but I have never grown one.

SJF,
The phal came from Ten Shim gardens. This color is what got me. I was debating between this one and a species (which was $10 more). I came to the conclusion that the hybrid would be more forgiving as I bring my Phal skills up to speed. So next time....

I recently bought my first species phals. I bought a few different ones. I should have started with one. Hopefully, I can keep them alive. It is my hope that they thrive and grow.

I actually like the new place, I like the way the exhibits look in the halls. I think the focus is more on the orchids than at Longwood, the exhibits, in my opinion, got swallowed by Longwood.
Had a great day at the show! I was selling plants for most of the day, but I was able to sneak out a little. I only had enough time to talk to Carrie and Satomi for a little. I got Satomi to hold a nice marginally variegated Neofinetia with four or so fans, it was marked at $40, but she said for me it was $30.
I saw some nice Phals at Ten Shin but I didn't get a chance to look much. I think I saw a Penang Girl, I didn't have enough time to really shop for much, hopefully I'll be able to get some good deals on Phals at the end of the day tomorrow.
I really like that Ho's Lovely Amethyst! Hopefully I can get one tomorrow!

IPA Spring Meeting
Since the IPA spring meeting was held at the orchid show, I'll briefly recap it here. It was a quickie meeting of less than 10 minutes in duration following Tom Harper's talk on Saturday, as there was only 15 minutes remaining before the building was to close. Other than approving the slate of nominated officers (the voting had essentially been completed earlier via the proxies we got in the mail), the meeting consisted of brief announcements by Carlos Fighetti. Dues will be rising later this year from $36 to $40. The Phalaenopsis magazine is going to go to electronic publication only due to costs (membership fees alone aren't nearly covering the expense of printing and distribution). Current membership is 400-some people (I heard, but can't recall, the exact figure), which is an incremental drop. He also mentioned the 2013 IPA Symposium to be held in Austin, TX, August 9-11, and that next year it will be in Ontario, California.
The newly elected officers are Barbara Noe, 2nd Vice President; Karen Armstrong, Recording Secretary; Olie Garrison, Treasurer.
Note that for the next few months you can still register for a 1- or 2-year membership at the old rates:
IPA - Membership
I for one am an advocate of maintaining memberships in IPA and AOS (I joined both shortly after I began collecting orchids 3 years ago) as a basic civic duty. I look at my membership fees as a vote to keep these organizations alive and viable.

I did see a few flasks, but I don't remember where (old age disease...?), alas. I remember one was a Paph and I don't remember what the other one was. I did register that it wasn't a phal. I think this is the kind of thing you will need to ask about.
