Redlands 2012
I am going to be making my first trip to Redlands in just a few weeks.
Any advice?

have fun! bring credit cards (and make sure there is room on them!) hehe - or conversely, hide your credit cards and only bring the amount you want to spend in cash!

Hi, Seabead22. Redlands is my favorite orchid show but there are some things you should keep in mind. It's an outdoor show and it's very hot down here this time of year. I would recommend a wide brim hat and sun screen. Wear comfortable shoes because there's quite a bit of walking involved. Many people bring things to carry orchids in because it's a little bit of hike out to the cars. I heard that there's a tent where they will hold your orchids for you but I've never seen it. There's a nice refreshment area with some tents for shade so I advise pacing yourself, stop at the refreshment area occasionally to rest. Most importantly, have fun.

I agree with everything Tucker said. I would also add that if you see something you like, go ahead and make the decision to buy or not buy it, and do it! Seems like every year I see something I like at the first table I pass, and I tell myself I want to look and see what else is there first and then I'll come back. Not 30 minutes later I go back to get that orchid and they're all gone! So my advice is be ready to be decisive. Oh, and like Tucker said, have FUN!

Wear sunscreen... and if you have a little wagon you might want to bring that as well. There are not just orchid vendors, but also Broward Orchid Supply ( www.browardorchidsupply.com) that sell various supplies like potting media, pots, wire products etc. So if you need any repotting supplies that you can't get at a home improvement store, it helps to make a list in advance and bring that as well.
I'm looking forward to the show, see you there!

Floridian, thanks for the mention (BOS). I work with them. We have some products we haven't had in the past. New orchid pots, and new mediums. We now carry Stalite in 2 sizes (fine/medium) and also Orchiata. Also, if you have a decent size collection, you might consider picking up a bottle of Merit insecticide. It looks expensive on paper, but it is actually cheaper than other p/c products. You use it only 4X a year.
Please stop in and say high to Sandy, Tom, and Cory, and if I'm there giving one of them a break, me, Brady.
Have fun!
