Default DVOS Presents Leo Martin: Sonoran Desert Orchid Pests

The Desert Valley Orchid Society (DVOS) invites out of town speakers for fall-winter-spring meetings, then has members speak during the summer (when nobody wants to visit.) We have had virtual meetings for the last year. Our meeting site has permitted us to again hold meetings, so this was our first meeting in person since May 2020.

DVOS member Leo Martin spoke Thursday, June 17, beginning just about as the temperature at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport reached 118 F / 48C. The topic was Orchid Pests. Some of the talk concerned local problems, but much concerned common greenhouse pests. This was our first meeting using Zoom via the locale WiFi, so there are a few technical difficulties, and the speaker needed to speak loudly.

The recording is available here, for a limited time. I will edit this message to remove the link when the Society decides to take it down.

Every area seems to have their own set of difficulties with growing orchids. Our talks about these always include fungus issues due to it being...Ohio.

We are still not meeting in person but I have come to really like Zoom Meetings. We have many people joining us from other Orchid Societies and speakers from all over so they do have their perks. Even better, I don't need to worry about going anywhere if I am feeling tired.
