Orchid Digest International Speakers Day
The Orchid Digest has turned the lemons into lemonade...
Gathering at the Huntington Library, Art Galleries and Botanical Gardens for the annual Speaker Day (usually in June) obviously couldn't happen. But instead, it will happen virtually on October 31, with a lineup of international speakers that would be financially impossible to have in person... Lourens Grobler (Afri-Orchids) from South Africa, Andrea Neissen (Orquideas del Valle) from Colombia, Lou Jost (EcoMinga Foundation) from Ecuador, and Alex Zaslawski (AWZ Orquideas) from Brazil. Here's the info and registration information Orchid Digest International Speakers Day They have it timed so it is at a reasonable hour in about 2/3 of the time zones on the planet.

This is coming up soon... an outstanding slate of speakers that would not be financially possible in "normal" times. Not limited by your geography either !

Not sure how I missed this thread! It was an excellent series of lectures and well worth the money, especially since a year's subscription was included with the price. I can't wait for next year's lecture series!

I'm glad that you got to participate even if you missed the thread! I thought it was great. (I didn't get the subscription deal because I've been a subscriber for years... it is an outstanding publication. Enjoy!) I hope that they do something like this even after the plague is over... so many people who can't get to the "live" Speakers Day because they aren't driving distance from Pasadena got to enjoy it - and they got a line-up of speakers that would be financially and logistically impossible to put together for the in-person event (which is always excellent too).

I agree! I hope virtual meetings continues well into the future! This webinar went off without a hitch too. Considering the speakers were in South Africa, Colombia, and Ecuador, I’d say virtual meetings cuts down on cost too!

And don't forget, Brazil too! I think that Orchid Digest did well on this as a fund raiser, with lower expenses and more attendees.
The in-person Speakers Day is a fun event... shopping, schmoosing with other people, eating a good dinner with nice wine. But I don't miss the hour drive each way. I liked this a LOT.
