My bigger problem with the rupis is that they tend to stay too wet in winter because they're outside and get rained on and watered. (I may try moving them to another spot next winter)

I can't take credit for it... Got the idea from Tom Biggart, an orchid hobbyist and potter in the San Diego area. Granite Hills Orchids)
who grows these really well. He makes pots specifically for the purpose, but I mostly use terracotta pots.

Here's a diagram that he presented at one of the society talks.
