A few random things
Will be going to, and joining, my first orchid society meeting today. Ann arbor orchid society, pretty excited, just in time to maybe volunteer to help out with the show next month
I have 2 brassias, 1 I've had for 3 years (no blooms yet), the other I've owned for 8 months. Around 6 months ago I started pushing my indoor orchids closer to the east facing window in our living room. The second brassia (eternal wind from Seattle orchids), has put out 2 spikes, from separate growths, I'm so pumped 1st that it has spiked, 2nd that there's 2 of them!
Also have a noid phal that my mother in law gave me about a year ago, only 3 air roots, and a pot of mush. Converted the air roots by introducing them to full water culture. It has since grown roots like crazy and had a spike that's maybe 8 inches long. I think this will be the 1st time I've had 2 orchids, that I have bloomed, blooming at the same time.

Also, after contemplating indoor lights, to provide enough light, I chose to move my higher light orchids to a new piece of furniture in front of our window.....

In the process of watering this morning, and I discovered a 3rd plant in spike, my brassidium yellow star 'golden gambol'. This is a 1st time spike for what was an error in repotting. I purchased the plant at porters orchids near Lansing, when repotting afyer I brought it home, a single large pseudobulb broke off. It was dark and mushy at the bottom, couple of sad roots. I put it in semi hydro for about 2 years, where it started it's recovery process. I transferred it to full water culture about a year ago, soon developed it's 3rd growth, and the roots absolutely exploded into the rats nest somewhat visible through the water. Once a week my full water culture orchids get a full root soak for half an hour with the msu fertilizer at around 25ppm N, once a month a tblspn each of Inocucor and kelpmax added also. They spend the rest of the week with about the bottom 20% of the roots submerged in water. If I could physically do a cartwheel, if do 3, for each plant that is in spike

The question was asked if there were any new members present, and a gentleman stood up and introduced himself. That was you? I wish I would have seen this post before I went to the meeting. I would have introduced myself! I'll be volunteering at the show, Saturday and Sunday for sure, maybe Friday. Maybe we'll run into each other there.

Congratulations! I'm going through the same exciting thing right now, my first time of having two of my orchids coming into bloom for me at the same time. Pretty cool, isn't it!

Yes M370, that was me. I sponsored 1 of the trophies, will probably be volunteering at some point for the show also. Hard to commit this early though, given the nature of my job, changes in the drop of a hat.
Paul, I would be there but will be up north with my wife and kids for the weekend. Take some pics if you go please!

4th plant is in spike, another noid phal, the brassia now has 3 spikes too! I really hope that at least 2 will be in bloom in 2 weeks. I'll be able to add them to the AAOS group display
