Gorgeous wild orchids! Woweee!

Why does that cigar orchid need such big, fat canes. . .how much water and fuel reserves does it need there in Florida?

Good question I think it is because it can get very dry certain times of the year. Also these like to have dead pine needles and leafs around the roots to hold nutrients and water longer.
