One thing...I think there are significant differences between mexican and brasilian Laelias.
Mexican, I think, tolerate dry and cool conditions while brasilian don't so much.

It was my understanding that the project is for rupicolous Laelias - which could get complicated with many recent name changes for these guys. I personally don't have a big objection to any Laelias... I've got a lot since they are my favorites in the alliance

I am curious though. I have a lot of different rupicolous Laelias that I recently purchased - should I pick just one as my project plant?

I think there is great variability in how these plants grow. I know many of the rupicolous Laelias I purchased are from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Some of them are cool-warm growing and some require a dryer winter rest period. This climate chart may be useful: Climate & Weather Averages in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Certainly, these aren't as cold as others can tolerate, like Laelia anceps, but they can probably handle down to 50F just fine, a little lower even if for a short period of time. The second link shows last years highs and lows during their coldest month, which is reportedly July.

Cheddarbob, I think we were going to specifically try to do rupiculous laelias for this project.

I have some rupiculous laelias that were not doing well so I stuck them on a Kool-log and seem to be doing better. So I will follow along with mine.
