What would it be? It doesn't matter if you cannot give it the right conditions. It doesn't matter if it's not on the market. What would you get...
I would get...
Hmm this is hard...
Coryanthes?

Well if I can't give it the right conditions I don't want it because it will die. But if I could wave a magic wand and be able to get and maintain any orchid it would be Caleana major.

What a question! It's a Sophie's Choice, in a way; pick one and you instantly eliminate all of the others. But I'm going to take it as an "alone on a deserted island" question. So I think I'll choose to be alone on an island where every tree is covered with Phalaenopsis schilleriana, which to my eye has the most delightful display of the Phal species. I'd thoroughly enjoy walks through my island full of pink flowers! I would, of course, have to insist on having a couple of good dogs to accompany me, though.

My answer, of course, will be completely different tomorrow. Maybe even an hour from now!

I am incapable of answering this question.

Some of my plants I could do without, but many of them I can't imagine not having. And then there are the plants I have yet to see, how could I possibly choose when I don't know about all of them!?

I, too, feel incapable of answering the question. As a relative newcomer, there is so much I have not even seen yet.

Like jkofferdahl above, though, if I was stranded on a deserted island, I would not mind being surrounded by Phal. schilleriana. Similarly, I would require a couple of good dogs to make my life complete!

Oh, shoot, now the theme from "Gilligan's Island" is going through my head!

I'm going to post again because I thought of one species that drives me nuts: Paraphalaenopsis denevei. I've grown serpentilingua and labukensis (two huge ones now), but denevei has always given me fits. In 38 years of orchid growing I've bloomed a denevei exactly once. Granted, I have one now, a seedling, which appears to be surviving my miscare thus far, but give me a Paraphalaenopsis denevei which will thrive and bloom in my care and I'll be a happy man.

If I could have any orchid, it would be a naturally sky-blue (Azure) Cattleya with a bright yellow center. Next on the wish list would be a fragrant solid-azure Phal-type Dendrobium.
