Where to find a stereochilus brevirachis? Female
Default Where to find a stereochilus brevirachis?

Hello All,

Despite all attempts to stop buying more orchids, I desperately want a stereochilus brevirachis. It's so cute and tiny (I attached an image if anyone want to see what they look like). I have a schoenorchis fragrans that I adore-and I want another miniature. I love the magenta/yellow and white combination.

The thing is, I cannot even find it on ebay. Where do you guys to go find your miniature orchids? Andy's orchids didn't even have it .

With over 25k recognized species, some orchids are bound to be impossible to obtain.

There's often a good reason something really beautiful is hard to find... it might be endangered, or very hard to grow. And I've noticed that, even when I'm fully pumped after lifting at the gym, I don't look like the guys in muscle magazines. Maybe photos we find on the Internet don't depict typical plants.

You should go to one of the big shows and talk to the vendors. They might show you something similar or something you'd like better (Andy is particularly good at this!).

You might be right about not being able to find it for a reason. I was looking on the forum here, and a lot of people mentioned having trouble with stereochilus dalatensis.

I've never been to an orchid show before. That's something I'd really love to do. Are there any good ones in the Providence/Boston area?

Wow! I can see why you'd want that one. What a beauty! There are some amazing miniatures available, but sometimes plants become hard to find. Some species that were all the rage ten years ago is now hidden away in collectors' greenhouses or forgotten areas of growers' houses. If Andy doesn't have it, it's going to be tough to find - but you might want to call him. Sometimes he has a very small quantity of a plant, but not enough to list on his site. A few years ago I was able to buy from him three plants of a particular species because of such a call.
