So, I am kind of super excited...

I had an Drs. Appointment at a specialist an hour and a half away from me near the border town with VT called Lebanon. I was pretty bumming 'cause I have to go back tomorrow as well and, well... it's a bit of a hike. I finished quickly (just had to take a pill) and decided to see if there were any decent garden shops nearby.

I found one that was not a big box that sold houseplants, so I dropped on in, expecting to only find phals as per usually.... to my surprise, they had quite the variety! Mostly Phals and full size Oncidium hybrids, some Paphs, Catts. and Dends. , but a few gems too.

I walked away with:

Onc. Twinkles 'Red' (11 spikes and bursting out of it's two inch pot)
Onc. Moon Shadow 'Tiger Tail'

and the real surprises:
Masd. Pinocchio's Dream (shoved under a shelf an behind other plants... I love my Masdie's though, saw it and said to myself "ZOMG a MASDIE!!!!!!!!!)
W. amazonica X Amazing

Two weren't in bloom so I got them for 25% off. I almost got a sickly looking dwarf/compact Cattleya with dead roots and rotted new growth but they weren't willing to drop below the standard 25% off for non-blooming plants and I wasn't willing to pay that much for a TLC project plant. Oh well... hate to say, it will probably die and they won't get anything for it, but that's the manager's prerogative . Unfortunately, many of the plants had rot and signs of not only over-watering but also lack of sufficient air-flow (lots of crown rot). Many of the plants, espc. Oncs looked happy though.

No pictures yet, just had to share my excitement... it's been six years since I've seen anything other than Phals in a store in VT or NH!

Trust me, I wasn't expecting it at all.

Not much for blooms, but here are the plants. Repotted the two with new growths into s/h, the others will wait until they start throwing new growths as well.

First is the Twinkle, then Moonshadow, M. Pinocchio's Dream and W. amazonica x Amazing

Edit: Sorry that 3/4 of the pics are sideways!

I wanted to correct the Warczewiczella amazonica X Amazing name and it is apparently a named cross... I think? Maybe someone can clarify if I am wrong.

Looks like it's a named cross, according to BlueNanta:
Cochlezella Tsiku Chuchango.

The Amazing hybrid turns out to be an intergeneric as one of the parents has remained in the Cochleanthes genus. Nomenclature, oi vey!

Well that had to make a trip to the doctors office a bit better! Wow, lucky find and nice plants. Don't you just love it when you find a special treat tucked back into the "forgotten" zone?! I bet you were smiling all the way home.

Tomorrow is another day! Happy hunting!!!
