An orchid project begins with suggestions for orchids that are easy to acquire and not too difficult to grow in most conditions. After we have many suggestions and a few possible vendors are located for each orchid, a poll is created and everyone votes on their favorite project plant. When the polls close, the winner is announced and everyone buys the orchid. Then we grow them and make occasional posts to report their progress, ask/answer questions, give/get advice, etc. The 2016 project winner was Cattleya walkeriana.

I've been on a bit of a tolumnia kick recently, I don't have a specific species in mind. I'd definitely take part in the project if we pick some kind of mini! (honestly, I'd probably grow something big, too. minis are just easier to make space for. )

I'm in too. What happens if I can't find the choosen one?
My choice goes to Laelia bradei. It's small, cool growing, intermediate light and is a rupicolous.
Somewhat different than the usual (at least for me).

In the past we've settled on plants available to most people. Members suggest plants, along with sources in their home market. We then vote with the vote feature of Orchid Board on something available to most people.

Most of the time we've chosen something that can be grown in a wide range of temperatures. There have been times when there was more than one plant if one was something some people can't really grow, like a cool-grower.
