SNOW ???? Wow. I'd consider relocating if I got snow that early. I would definitely consider that tropical island [COLOR="Silver"]

And this was AFTER I wiped my car off this evening to go to the store. There was about eight inches of snow piled up on top of my car. Climate change is hitting us hard.

People ask me how I can live where it's so hot in the summer. I tell them we don't have to shovel sunshine.

I mean, if it wasn't for the lack of free health care and all the other things that makes Canada great, I'd probably move to California.

Orchid Sunday 10/09
Happy Sunday All!
I like JK's idea of an Orchid Sunday. I may be wordy, (that's my disclaimer).
My mother in law is in a nursing facility. She can't hear me so I fill her bird feeder while my husband "talks" to her. The lady in the next room had a sad looking phal on her windowsill. After a few weeks of walking by it, I decided to ask about it. Well, I promised her a blooming orchid for next week and she gave me hers to rehab. It was waterlogged in a clay catch-pot and the medium was degraded terribly but, the plucky thing was sending out new roots. It's now in a tent in coarse bark, on my desk. I know you are all smirking...yep, addicted.
Our couple's friends are really into boy scouts (leading the troops). They are having a fund raiser in a couple of weeks so, I am painting them a carousel horse to raffle off. I'm painting a series of these and thinking of naming them after 60's-80's rock bands...Moody Blues, Black Sabbath etc. I'm enclosing a picture of the last one I did (Buttermilk). This one will be all blacks with metallic accents.
Well, I got up, did certification paperwork, made honey a big breakfast, read the fun arts of the Chicago Tribune, cursed politics, painted and now I am watering orchids. I see new roots and shoots! Yeah!!! After that I am headed out to mow the ranch. We will see how many acres I can get through before dark.
I hope you all have a beautiful, blessed day!

It is chestnut season which means...putting on a thick pair of work gloves, raking up the prickly hauls and removing the chestnuts from them before bagging the hauls for disposal. I will probably be spending some time every day for the next week and half doing this. Our tree is still fighting American Chestnut blight...every year we have it is quite remarkable. The mother tree died from the blight, some time ago, and the homeowner had the rest of it removed (they often keep coming back from the roots).
Happy Sunday to everyone!

However, Sully, who sleeps by my bed, let me know it was time for me to see to my dogs.

Dogs are truly the best friends we could ever have.

Happy Orchid Sunday to all. Today started as usual, watering orchids. I have a few in bloom and a few in bud, so I am happy. Went shopping this afternoon to get Doggy some more food and "cookies" that she so adores. She loves going to Pet Smart because they let her walk around with us. Makes her feel important. She also likes to go to Home Depot and Lowes to stroll. Bought some new clay pots for some top-heavy orchids. Seems like every couple of days one goes upside down lately. They are so tight together I have a hard time picking one up without knocking one over. I definitely need to rearrange to make even more room for the "outsiders" that need to come in.

I've spent my Sunday meticulously making up a shopping list to send along with my friend to the Montrčal Show that is coming up. I made sure to list lots of replacement options and backup plants, because I didn't get the idea to have her mail me plants until the deadline for pre-orders had passed. But if all goes well, I'll be getting some species Oncidiums and a few complex ones, a few Tolumnia, and a couple of really unique Cattleya types. I'm super excited! So now I just hope that the weather stays cooperative.
