Default Blooming orchids - Environmental information

Hello, my friends

There’s some information I feel missing when people post pictures of their blooming orchids.
Since we all live in different parts of the world, with different climates and differences in the seasons too, I think it would be a great help to those who are growing the same orchids as the ones posted, to know the environmental conditions of when the blooming happened.

For ex, the orchids that are blooming now in the Northern countries/states probably won't be blooming now where I live. It will happen later, in two or three months.

Maybe I’m asking too much, but I think it would be helpful in "fine tunning" and monitoring those conditions for each one of us.

What do you think?

I think it's a great idea.

I didn't see this until today. In the past one could click on Quick Links in the top maroon menu then Today's Posts and see a list of all the new posts in the last 24 hours. But now this isn't working. I started wading through all the forums and finding lots of posts that never showed up on Today's Posts.

I agree that it's a great idea.

Way too many people make and receive recommendations about various cultural parameters, without considering how the individual's local environment may affect that.

That is specially noticeable when dealing with new genera. Right now I'm dealing with two that I have never grown before (Stan and Xylobium). First, in the same genera there might be several requirements from specie to specie, and in my case, I need to deal with temps often above 40°C and HR as low as 15%, the info of a sucessful growing environment is something I need to achieve in my conditions. It's a reference, a goal.

When asked about how I grow things, I do try to mention the factors influencing my decisions as I know to grow some of the plants I grow in my home, I have had to really think about the medium, location and other factors after doing quite a bit of research. When I first started these boards, I know I followed the advice of some people to improve growing my orchids and nearly killed a few because I did not know that the people giving advice were growing under lights or in a greenhouse and how that affected growing the orchids.

This is one reason I started making videos of my plants and their conditions.
