but I can't find it, and I have a doozy. I don't know how many I killed, probably won't know for a while as they sometimes die as slowly as they grow. I forgot to open the door of my grow area before I went to work this morning, and when I went out to check on things after work imagine my shock when I saw that it was 118 degrees F........ Wow.......... Some of them look a little shocky, some look fine. Some look .....dying .....
Time will tell. I immediately watered them all with tepid water to rehydrate them.. Didn't want to shock them more with cold water. So.... now the waiting to see who lives and who dies. wow, bummer, but totally my fault

That is really too bad. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully most of them will recover. A few days of cooler temps may resuscitate them.

Thanks , guys, for your support. Here's a follow up: Every day since I have seen more damage. The ones least affected are the Cattleya alliance, although the Encyclias have damage. The worst are the oncidium alliance including my once beautiful Miltoniopsis, my Twinkles, and my lava burst. Leaves on all are really bad, so I guess I just have to wait to see if they put up new growths. The Aussie Dens took it pretty well, the old leaves look pretty good, but the new growths are pretty damaged. There are 83 plants out there so it breaks my heart every time I go out there.

I've had it up in the low 100's in the gh when vents failed to open; most cattleyas and laelias simply shrugged it off--a few developed heat marks on the leaves, but such is life. You've noticed what happens to the Aussie dendrobiums; most of them lost developing leaves on new growths, but the old growths were fine. About a month later the majority of them threw new leads from both the mature pseudobulbs and the damaged pseudobulbs. I think the only orchids that suffered no damage at all were a few cymbidiums that I'd not put out--probably because they were all under shade cloth and standing in tubs of water. Good luck, I think you'll be surprised at the resilience of your plants (even the Oncidia),

Still seeing new damage every day. I'm sure I am going to loose some, just a question of how many. Even if the roots are ok, do you think having no functioning leaves, the roots will survive to make new growth, or is no leaves a death sentence ?

As long as the pseudobulbs stay green, your orchids should be able to produce new growths.

I still have alive two bifoliate Cattleya hybrid seedlings I left outside in July 2015 for 8+ hours in full sun on a day when the high was 114 F / 46C. I put them out the night before for a monsoon rainstorm, and forgot them when I went to work. They did nothing for almost a year, and are now growing some new roots, as well as tiny new growths.

The six Cattleya seedlings next to them died quickly.
