Oh well, that too could be worse. Welcome to the board and glad you finally decided to join in.

Well I have had to stop, at least for the time being as I am having a time keeping up with them all. And I just can't spend the money either. It has stopped me dead in my tracks, so sad. There are so many out there I would like to have.

I don't think I will ever have just one kind as I like so many of them. I want more phrags if I can keep them in a saucer of water as that makes them easier for me to take care of.

And now I have finally gotten a new set up for my Massd's so all bets are off. If they like it I will probably not be able to set hard enough on my hands.

I have 2 aggregatums, not dead, but not growing either, 1 woodsii , all the leaves fell of and nothing is happening now., 1 aberrans x Hisako Haraguchi, looks dead, but I keep watering hoping for a new growth, and 1 loddigesii, not dead, but leaves not looking very good. yellow and just not thriving.

When they're growing they need a huge amount of water. I'm guessing yours were too dry between waterings.

Seriously though I think specializing/finding your niche in the orchid world helps control the urge a lot.

Hate to say it, but I am also into horses. Two very expensive hobbies.

Oh boy, yes. I get to admire a lot of horses from afar while delivering the mail, some even come to the fence line to greet me while I deliver packages. As much as I love them, I know I could never commit to them like they need. I admire anyone that can .

I hesitate to say... I think I am in a lull of sorts (cross fingers). I'm not sure it will last, but I can hope! I'm waiting to see what kind of space I will have once winter approaches. I was not in the orchid mindset when I moved to my place last winter... so I don't remember how the sunlight was/what direction it came in for which windows very well- I wouldn't want to have too many high-light plants I can't accommodate!

I do know that if I was certain I could control the humidity better, my apartment would be a masdie forest. Right now, I think they are my favorites.

I must buy more orchids....it is my duty to maintain a sufficient addiction....if I did not buy more orchids, I would succumb to something much worse...like, uh, visiting casinos more often!....hello bill w. I am not an alcoholic, but I am an addict!

Aggregatums should be 1/2 way through bulbs now; if they are not doing anything for you I'd first suspect humidity and second suspect light intensity/duration--what conditions are you growing them under?
I had to look up woodsii; but being as it's from PPNG and montane, I'd conjecture high humidity year round and stable temps; I'd also conjecture it grows under heavy shade mid spring-mid autumn, then is subjected to a brighter period--probably accompanied by less precipitation, but still stable humidity.
I've not grown aberrans in a long time; I do know that they don't like a cold greenhouse though; I'm guessing if you treat it like a phal type dendrobium (with a bit less intense light), that would be a place to start--ie warm temps year round, with plenty of water and fertilizer.
Lodegessi I have found to be virtually unkillable, provided it is mounted--potted I find it rots too easily at the center of the plant and then spreads. Treat it like a mounted cattleya and you should do fine; ie soak it daily and allow it to dry out--when leaves drop (though they may not...), increase the light, expose it to cooler temps and hold back the water--ie just give it a fine spray every morning and a soak about every 10 days. If it's mature enough, it should throw blooms, if not, there's always next year.
Just my $0.02,
Adam

Thanks, StoneDragon, I'll work on some of those changes. Right now all orchids are together, 80F - 90F days 60F - 70Fnights ,50 to 65 % humidity. T5 lights on 5:30 am to 5 PM. Most are 12 " or so under the lights, some are 2' or so and some are not under the lights. All the dens are under the lights varying from 1 to 2 ' away.
