Thanks, guys. Those are encouraging stories. I will continue to water and hope for the best. My CTSM that was budded is starting to blast it's buds. I know even if most survive it will be at least a year waiting for new growths. No blooms for me this year.

Maybe it would make you happy to buy a few new blooming ones to replace some that you lost

That's a thought I could live with. There is really no place nearer to me than 3 hours away, so It's not always that easy. Maybe I'll try to talk hubby into a road trip

Sounds like fun. But failing that, there is always overnight shipping!

Nearly all my orchids have been ordered online. I prefer to pay the shipping to get the orchids I really want. No bothersome travel involved.

I have done a lot of buying online also, but I understand that blooming or budded orchids do not fair well with shipping. I did get two replacements so far. I got a lava burst from Kawamoto that is in spike and a microchip that is not. Hope they do ok.

Receiving orchids in bud or bloom without damage really depends on the vendor. I have gotten orchids from Hausermann's in bud and they have always arrived in perfect condition and bloom for me. I received an order from J&L eight days ago with three of the orchids in bud and two are blooming now and one is getting ready to bloom. (I highly recommend the Dendrobium auriculatum for anyone looking for a fragrant orchid.)
I doubt either of these places guarantee the orchids will arrive in perfect condition but both companies have many, many years of experience.
Another place that really packs orchids well and might be able to send you something in bud is Exotic Orchids of Maui. With the way they pack orchids, I doubt you would find any buds/blooms damaged.

I usually buy little seedlings a few years from blooming but every once in a while, I find it fun to buy something in bud. Or, sometimes, what I think will be a seedling ends up arriving in bud/bloom. As one usually pays more for something in bud/bloom, it is best to go with a vendor one can trust.

The worst are the oncidium alliance including my once beautiful Miltoniopsis, my Twinkles, and my lava burst. Leaves on all are really bad, so I guess I just have to wait to see if they put up new growths. The Aussie Dens took it pretty well, the old leaves look pretty good, but the new growths are pretty damaged. There are 83 plants out there so it breaks my heart every time I go out there.
I've had it up in the low 100's in the gh when vents failed to open; most cattleyas and laelias simply shrugged it off--a few developed heat marks on the leaves, but such is life. You've noticed what happens to the Aussie dendrobiums; most of them lost developing leaves on new growths, but the old growths were fine. About a month later the majority of them threw new leads from both the mature pseudobulbs and the damaged pseudobulbs. I think the only orchids that suffered no damage at all were a few cymbidiums that I'd not put out--probably because they were all under shade cloth and standing in tubs of water. Good luck, I think you'll be surprised at the resilience of your plants (even the Oncidia),
Adam

Thanks for the encouragement, StoneDragon. The only ones I have that seemed to not care are my neostylis lou sneary, and my ascocentrums (3). They each have a small black spot on one leaf, the rest look fine. My Cyms and Nobile Dens are outside, so they got spared. My miltonia looks to be blasting it's buds, and my Catesetum did also. My Miltoniopsis look horrible, most of the leaves have fallen off. That leads me to another question as to the ones who have lost all or most of their leaves, should I cut back on water with no leaves to use it ??

The roots still have to stay moist, especially on a Miltoniopsis. It could easily produce new growth.
