I've purchased plants from three different places in the last month. Two of the places were traditional (and well known) orchid nurseries/suppliers and one plant from eBay. Of the six orchids I've gotten, the one from eBay is the healthiest, best looking and also the best deal (IMO)... however, I got to look at the actual plant I was bidding on. I like this method a lot and it can save some disappointment when something comes in looking different than what's in your head.
As already said, feedback is important. There are several sellers on there with stellar feedback, so I would be choosy. Personally, I avoid anyone with less than a 99.5% satisfaction rate, especially if they have over a thousand sales. If someone had a plant I liked that no one else did, I might look at someone with a lower score... but I read the feedback to see what the problem is (sometimes buyers are unrealistic).
The guy I bought from was shermantp. The plant was shipped quickly, and arrived three days after payment. Packaging was good (wrapped and padded with newspaper) and the package was well labeled to encourage proper handling. He did ship via the Post Office. I don't mind that because I prefer postal shipping, depending on how close the person is. (Disclaimer- I also work at my local PO often... so I know they will make sure I get my stuff... =D )
