Sorry, I have rehosted the images on Flickr. They should be visible now.

Hi all! It's been a long time since the last post, huh? My beloved Bapticidium is in bloom once more! And what's more, before the current spike started to wild, another spike emerged! This bodes well for the plant when it becomes a huge specimen

I found this Phal. OX Black Face at a home depot of all places, stocked right next to the infamous dyed Phals. This thing has 4 inch blooms with a crazy amount of velvet fuzz which isn't quite captured by the camera.

This one I got from Trader Joe's, tagged with its name. Unfortunately it seems the environment has forced her to terminate her blooms early. She seems like a cute little miniature.

Love that last one. No Trader Joes close enough to here though! What's its name? Not sure I'm interpreting the link descriptor right.

They are all beautiful. I especially like the first one, but the last one could also find a home with me.

Diamonds in the rough? Ever find something special from a big box store? Female
Default Oh yes

In a grocery store of all places, a very nice Paph Pinocchio and the tiniest white phal, the blooms are only about 1/2 inch. Oh, and a wonderful NoID red and white oncidium with a great floral fragrance. Although I have to say, the selection of colorful Phals has definitely increased, along with the awful ones - those dyed things.

Was in a Lowes today (Heath, Ohio) and made the mistake of checking out their bag babies. Came home with the following:

3 (yes, three) C. walkeriana semi-alba 'Carmela'--so now I have 4 of these and figure I'll grow them different ways and report the results to the 2016 walkeriana project.
Blc. Always Dream 'Volcano Queen'--looks like there's a dried sheath on the previous pb, so may be blooming size and it's sending up a new growth
Blc. Jami Hollingsworth 'Sun Bulb'--two new growths and possibly a spike forming on a nice healthy plant.
Dendrobium aggregatum majus--I'll see if I can get this one to grow....
Onc.Sweet Sugar 'Million Dollar'--pot felt heavy when I bought it, checked it when I got home and it was potted in tightly packed sphagnum, so roots mostly rotted BUT it's got a new growth and healthy new roots coming from it.

There were three other Catt bybrids plus two B. nodosa hybrids in the larger size as well as a no-ID Den labeled "purple latouria dendrobium." The smaller size had the walkjeriana plus three other catt hybrids. I didn't check every plant, but the ones I picked up that were potted in bark (all except the oncs--they're in sphagnum) were healthy.

Not orchids though. Just bought 2 pots, 3", of gold club spike moss, Selaginella kraussiana, from Lowes. $3.50 each. Just in time too before they would wither due to too little light, over watering, and overly dry condition. They put these near the entrance and is getting cold in NYC now. The air is drier.
